The Inheritance of Tools

The author of the story clearly depicts the hammer as one of his family heirlooms passed down by his grandfather. The story starts with the death of his father then slowly conjuring up stories of the heirloom being used by his grandfather to create a house for his family.Then later progressing into how his father had used the hammer as a important tool to help him create his family. Then finally the story moves on the the narrator's showing how with the hammer his fixed his daugter's wall and how his son is now playing with the tools, too. And sameday would inherit the heirloom hammer.
Moreover, the heirloom is very important in the narrator's life. The heirloom is very important to his father-son relationship. The hammer serve not only as a constant reminder of his family but also as a bridge of connection between him and his father.
